During his time at UAB, Dr. DeAtkine was recognized for his sharp clinical intuition and a bedside manner that brought comfort to many. He was a proud representative of the next generation of Alabama physicians, deeply committed to the health and well-being of his community.

While Andrew’s professional life was defined by the rigors of medicine, his personal life was a tapestry of art and energy. He was a gifted musician who found peace in the strings of his guitar and a creative soul who expressed himself through intricate drawings.

His father, David DeAtkine, shared the heartbreaking details of Andrew’s passing, noting that he succumbed to a sudden cardiovascular event at approximately 1:00 AM while at home. Despite immediate resuscitative efforts by loved ones and emergency responders, he could not be revived.
“Andrew is going to leave a giant hole in our lives,” his family shared. “As hard as it is… we are trusting in God’s benevolence and sovereignty.”
